Gravina announces bid for re-election as FIGC President

Start

Gabriele Gravina has revealed his intention to seek re-election as president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on February 3rd. The current FIGC president made this announcement in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

In explaining his decision to run again, Gravina stated, “It wasn’t an easy decision, but a well-considered one. Certain types of attacks I’ve received in recent weeks haven’t prevented me from moving forward. Everything was done to discourage me from running, but they don’t know me. I have the ability and serenity to walk with my head held high and a clear conscience: I haven’t committed any crime. I respect the laws and am ready to submit to the judgment of Italian justice. However, everything that’s happening to me is unprecedented. The Perugia Prosecutor’s Office, the GIP, and the Rome Review Court certify that I’ve been a victim of illegal dossier activities carried out by individuals who harbor ill will towards me.”

Gravina also addressed rumors about his potential departure from FIGC: “I was tempted several times to conclude my commitment to FIGC, and I had revealed this to the heads of the components who have always supported me, but I had a moral obligation to them. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was a responsible one.”
