After Bologna’s recent 2-1 defeat to Lille in the Champions League, head coach Vincenzo Italiano expressed his disappointment during the post-match interview. The loss marked another setback for the team, which has struggled to find form in the tournament.
Italiano began by reflecting on the match, stating, “Some errors were too many? I think today the team held the field differently, more present. But we scored two avoidable goals against ourselves. Especially at the moment we equalized, we should have continued with that fury. Their second goal held us back.”
He acknowledged the frustration of not securing a victory, saying, “The win doesn’t come, and we are sorry about that. We could have done better in terms of finishing, but I have nothing to say to the boys. Today, the opponent was tough and of a high level.”
Looking ahead, Italiano shared his thoughts on upcoming fixtures: “It’s disappointing because from the bench this was a game where we could have achieved something more. It’s a shame; now we will think about the league match.” He emphasized Bologna’s recent improvement in Serie A, noting, “In Serie A, we managed to come out of a negative period. We achieved consecutive victories that have pushed us back behind the top seven. We continue to work and grow to stay connected. We need to roll up our sleeves; we must recover positions and prepare ourselves well for Venezia.”
Italiano concluded by reiterating his focus on the lessons learned from the defeat: “We lose due to details. In this competition, if you make mistakes, you get punished, and that has happened to us in all five matches we’ve played. This should help us grow because we cannot afford these errors in the league.” He acknowledged the challenges posed by a packed schedule: “With all these closely scheduled matches, perhaps there’s also a lack of time to work calmly. We play again on Saturday, which penalizes us a bit, but we can continue to grow and improve.”
