Serie A clubs rally behind Del Piero for FIGC presidential race

Start

Serie A clubs are rallying behind Alessandro Del Piero as a potential candidate for the FIGC Presidency. Reports from La Repubblica indicate that the Italian football legend has received multiple inquiries from various Serie A teams regarding his interest in running for the position.

Del Piero, who enjoyed a storied career with Juventus and the Brazilian national team, has not yet confirmed his candidacy for the FIGC elections scheduled for 2025. Current FIGC President Gabriele Gravina is expected to seek re-election, but Del Piero has left the door open, reportedly stating that he “hasn’t said no” to the idea of entering the race. He may address this topic publicly during an upcoming appearance on Italian television.

The former striker is currently part of the Sky Sport Italia commentary team for Champions League matches this week. Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi emphasized the need for Serie A clubs to unite behind a single candidate, suggesting that Del Piero could serve as a unifying figure among top teams and other voting delegates in the upcoming election.

The FIGC assembly is composed of representatives from Serie A, Serie B, Lega Pro, and Lega Nazionale Dilettanti, along with athletes, coaches, and referees. A total of 276 delegates will cast their votes, and a candidate must secure at least 50% plus one vote to be elected as president.

With strong support from various clubs and a respected status in Italian football, Del Piero’s potential candidacy could bring a new direction to the FIGC during a critical time for Italian football.
