Following a 1-0 victory over Venezia, Lecce’s head coach Marco Giampaolo shared his insights on the team’s performance. This win marked a positive start for Giampaolo’s tenure, lifting Lecce out of the relegation zone temporarily and placing them 15th in the Serie A standings, just one point behind Roma.
Giampaolo reflected on the match, stating, “The team has spirit and knew how to endure. Venezia is strong in possession, but we managed well even under pressure. I believe Jean’s entry brought us more balance, and we suffered much less.”
Discussing individual performances, he noted, “Jean worked on Oristanio; it was clear he was adapting. I didn’t want to change too much. Rebic entered well, as did Helgason and Kaba. The substitutes contributed positively; having determination was key. Every match is challenging.”
On Lecce’s defensive approach, Giampaolo explained, “We struggled with their possession in the first half. Venezia is a team with quality that can cause problems. We excelled in recovery and then positioned ourselves better. These are Lecce’s characteristics at the moment: a lot of spirit and less clean passing. Other qualities will emerge over time. Right now, the team needs confidence, and this victory helps with that. From here, we can move forward.”
