Dimarco on Inter’s progress ahead of Leipzig match: “We need to set aside last season”

As Inter Milan prepare to return to UEFA Champions League action, Federico Dimarco addressed the media alongside coach Simone Inzaghi ahead of their fifth match against RB Leipzig at San Siro. The Nerazzurri remain unbeaten in the competition, having secured 10 points so far, while Leipzig has yet to earn a point.

Discussing the importance of the upcoming match, Dimarco stated, “We need to deliver a great performance against a strong team. The Champions League is one of the most beautiful competitions; it provides great motivation. Tomorrow, we need to play well: we’ve faced high-level opponents and earned 10 points; we need three more to get closer to our goal.”

When asked how Inter compares to last season, he remarked, “Last year was incredible, but we need to set it aside. This year, we started well; in November, we’re just one point off the top and have 10 points in the Champions League. There are four matches left, and we’re close to advancing. I don’t think there have been any physiological drops; we’ve played many games, and some draws or losses are expected. Of course, if you’re Inter, it makes noise. We must continue working this way; I’m sure we’ll achieve satisfaction.”

Dimarco also reflected on his own contributions, saying, “All the chances I create come from teamwork; I always try to put attackers in the best positions. Everything comes from the work of the team, the staff, and the coach.”

Addressing concerns about squad rotation under Inzaghi, he added, “At Inter, there’s no need to discuss rotation; we have many strong players, as shown in all competitions. Whoever steps on the field must give everything for the shirt, and that will be the case tomorrow.”

Discussing Leipzig’s strengths, he noted, “They are third in the standings and have conceded few goals. We know they have strong players like Sesko. We must play our game as we always do in the Champions League.”

When asked if this Inter side is stronger than last year’s team and whether they can aim for success in both Serie A and Champions League, Dimarco acknowledged the competition: “It’s true that many rivals have strengthened; otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many teams within a few points at the top. Inter is strong and must approach all competitions equally.”

He expressed happiness for teammate Joaquín Correa’s recent success: “I’m really happy for Tucu; he deserves it. Since the start of the season, he has always given his best and never complained about playing time. This shows who he is and reflects our locker room at Inter. It’s healthy; we care for each other and enjoy ourselves—and that shows on the field.”

Finally, Dimarco discussed how his game changes between club and national team duties: “My game changes based on the coach’s requests, but since we also play a 3-5-2 formation with the national team, it changes relatively little. I always strive to give my best.”
