Talented Canadian forward Jonathan David has become one of the most talked-about players in the transfer market as his contract with Lille approaches its expiration at the end of the season. With several clubs eyeing a potential move, including Juventus and Inter, David has made his dream clear: he wants to play for Barcelona.
“The Barcelona has been the team I’ve supported since I was a child, so your dream becomes to play for them,” David told The Athletic, expressing his long-standing admiration for the Catalan club.
As discussions around a possible transfer heat up, David acknowledged the challenges of switching clubs mid-season. “Going to a club in the middle of the season is never easy. It’s not like the start of a season where you have a pre-season to get to know your teammates and have time to settle in. In January, things are very hectic. It’s right now. It’s tougher.”
Despite interest from major clubs, David remains focused on his development at Lille. “Some might say, ‘Oh, stay at Lille; this is a step back; you’re not improving.’ But for me, there are always opportunities to improve.”
David also reflected on areas he aims to enhance in his game. “From an aerial perspective, I can improve. I can get into good positions and win headers, but I still lack that final touch. I can also improve when it comes to playing with my back to goal.”
