The Italian national team is set to pay a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Gigi Riva before their Nations League match against France at San Siro. Riva, who passed away in January, would have celebrated his 80th birthday on November 7th. Sky Sport Italia report that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has planned a special commemoration for the man known as ‘Rombo di Tuono’ (Rumble of Thunder).
As part of the pre-match festivities, a video showcasing some of Riva’s most memorable goals will be displayed on San Siro’s giant screens. In a unique twist, a portion of the pitch will be transformed into a canvas, where images of the iconic striker will be blended with 3D animations and light beams positioned around the field.
This innovative display aims to create an unforgettable homage to Riva, who remains the all-time leading goalscorer for the Italian national team with an impressive record of 35 goals in 42 appearances. The tribute is designed to remind fans of Riva’s immense contribution to Italian football and his enduring legacy.
