“With Dybala, I do what I want; no more Angeliño in the centre” – Claudio Ranieri

Claudio Ranieri has made a triumphant return to AS Roma, taking the reins as head coach for the third time. In a recent press conference at the “Fulvio Bernardini” sports center in Trigoria, he discussed his plans and expectations ahead of his upcoming match against Napoli on November 24.

Ranieri began by addressing his unexpected return to coaching. “I had stopped coaching and received more requests in these months than when I won the Premier League with Leicester,” he stated. He emphasized that he would only return to coaching for Roma or Cagliari, acknowledging that fate led him back to the club he considers home.

He expressed gratitude towards the Friedkin family, Roma’s owners, for their financial commitment and concern for the team’s struggles. “He cares about the club. He cannot bear to see the team not performing,” Ranieri explained. He is determined to meet the responsibilities entrusted to him and aims to restore pride in the team.

When discussing tactics, Ranieri noted that he does not adhere to a fixed system of play. “There isn’t a base system anymore unless you are an established coach,” he remarked, emphasizing that adjustments during matches are crucial. His priority will be assessing player fitness before deciding on formations.

Ranieri stressed the importance of unity between players and supporters. “We are a family: from players to staff,” he declared. He urged fans to support the team, especially during challenging times, as playing in front of a hostile crowd can be difficult for players.

In terms of objectives, Ranieri is optimistic about achieving maximum results. “I have bonuses tied to reaching goals,” he revealed, recalling similar incentives from his time at Leicester City. He emphasized that Roma must consistently compete at high levels and gain recognition globally for its footballing prowess.

Regarding Francesco Totti’s potential involvement with the club, Ranieri remained open but cautious. “I am not closing any doors,” he said, indicating that discussions could take place once the team’s performance improves.

Ranieri’s management style will prioritize performance over personal preferences. “I told my president that I will do what I think is best for Dybala; I won’t let clauses dictate my decisions,” he asserted confidently.
