Italy’s national team coach Luciano Spalletti expressed optimism ahead of their Nations League match against Belgium. Speaking to the official channels of the Italian Football Federation, Spalletti shared his thoughts on the upcoming game and the team’s preparation.
When asked if this match could be indicative of the national team’s progress, Spalletti responded, “Yes, it would confirm that we’ve consolidated the aspects highlighted in previous games. The consistency in behavior, self-esteem in our qualities, and conviction in our strength – all these things for which the results and attitudes of these matches will be fundamental.”
Reflecting on the team’s training days at Coverciano, Spalletti was enthusiastic: “They were wonderful. I saw important things, I saw what I like to see as a coach. I saw players confident in their abilities. We can’t wait to play these games that can give us a lot for the future as well.”
Regarding his expectations for Belgium, Spalletti stated, “I expect to see the Italy we saw at the Olimpico. I don’t know what they will propose, but if we are what I saw this morning and what we’ve been in recent challenges, it will be difficult for anyone to play against this Italy.”
When questioned about the team’s growth trajectory, Spalletti expressed his ambitious outlook: “I always expect to achieve important things. Otherwise, I’d be the first to lower the expectations and possibilities of these guys who must give us the opportunity to become an extremely strong national team again.”
On the topic of team selection, Spalletti revealed, “I’ve more or less already chosen the lineup. Of course, you carry some doubt until the last moment with two close games. It’s not even a doubt, it’s something that’s normal to do, and as the hours pass, it falls into place.”
