Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi spoke to DAZN after the top-of-the-table clash between Inter and Napoli in Serie A’s 12th round. The match preceded the international break, with Napoli leading the table on 25 points and Inter just one point behind before kick-off.
Inzaghi began by praising his team’s performance: “The team didn’t fall apart, they were very good. I congratulated the boys because I didn’t expect a game like this after Wednesday’s match against Arsenal. In the second half, I didn’t even want to make changes, although I usually use my bench a lot. We played excellently for 95 minutes against Napoli, who are a strong team, and their players were also very good.”
Commenting on Thuram and Lautaro’s performance, Inzaghi said: “We were up against a strong team, but they worked very hard and kept us united. I congratulated them for what they spent, even though I don’t usually talk afterwards. I’m very happy.”
He added, “I said before the game that it would be a very balanced championship and it will be, but I saw a great Inter with European values that are higher than Italian ones. Sommer didn’t have to make a save, we created chances without conceding almost anything to a team that is deservedly at the top of the table.”
Addressing the issue of conceding goals from the first shot on target, Inzaghi stated: “That’s a statistic we’re trying to erase, we’re working hard on it. We’ll improve further, the last two games leave me serene. We’re all one point apart but we have great confidence. We’re doing good work and we’re all focused.”
In closing, Inzaghi motivated his team further: “Football is strange, there was a deflection in front of the goal, McTominay’s marker kept him onside, otherwise it would have been offside. These are the details that make the difference, but we have to be stronger than these things. In the last 10 games, we’ve had 8 wins and 2 draws. We’re Inter, it should have been 10 out of 10. We’re trying to improve, bearing in mind that there are opponents called Arsenal and Napoli who try to make things difficult for you.”
