Juventus intensify pursuit of Jonathan David: Motta’s surprise move after Lille match

Start

Juventus have reignited their interest in Jonathan David following the Champions League match against Lille. The French club is reportedly asking for €20 million in January, but the striker will be available on a free transfer next summer.

Corriere dello Sport report how after David’s impressive performance against Juventus, scoring a clinical striker’s goal, the Italian giants have stepped up their efforts to secure his signature. Thiago Motta, Juventus’ manager, was seen exchanging words with David after the match, potentially discussing future prospects.

During the pre-match UEFA lunch between club delegations, Juventus representatives including Ferrero, Giuntoli, and Chiellini briefly touched on the topic of David’s transfer. Lille’s stance remains unchanged – they are willing to sell for €15-20 million in January.

However, Juventus are unlikely to meet this price tag after an expensive summer transfer window. They are more inclined to wait until June when David becomes a free agent. The Canadian international, who has scored 97 goals in 201 appearances for Lille, is ready for a new challenge.

Juventus faces stiff competition for David’s signature, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool all expressing interest. Giuntoli, known for his discreet negotiations, may have an advantage due to Juventus’ long-standing interest in the player.

The Italian club hope David will be patient and wait until summer before making a move. At that point, even with significant agent fees and a top-tier salary, the deal would be more feasible for Juventus.

Motta envisions a potential partnership between David and current Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, forming a formidable attacking duo. As Lille manager Genesio noted, “Jonathan is ice-cold in front of goal. If he misses the first chance, he won’t miss the second.” David proved this point by converting his sole opportunity against Juventus in their recent encounter.
