Antonio Cassano, a pundit for Viva el Futbol, has strongly criticized the refereeing in the recent Monza-Milan match, particularly the disallowed goal for Monza. The controversial decision by referee Feliciani to rule out a Monza goal for a prior foul by Bondo on Theo Hernandez has sparked intense debate.
Cassano didn’t mince words in his assessment: “The goal taken away from Monza against Milan is disgraceful. What would the referee have done if the roles were reversed? I’m starting to think there’s bad faith involved.”
He elaborated on the incident, saying, “The other night, something absurd happened. The referee proved to be really poor. He saw the foul and let the action continue to see what would happen, then Dany Mota scores, and he goes back on his decision… Rocchi (the referee designator), what is this? All this happens to Monza, which nobody talks about. They’re playing to avoid relegation, and that defeat weighs heavily. And after a day, everything is forgotten…”
Cassano insisted that the goal should have stood and reiterated his suspicion of bad faith: “That goal should have been given and, I repeat, in my opinion, the referee acted in bad faith based on what he must have thought in those six or seven seconds before the goal arrived.”
He drew parallels to other controversial decisions, mentioning incidents involving Roma and Verona: “What about what happened to Roma? Baldanzi gets fouled, and it’s nothing. Then in Verona, Magnani hits the opponent a couple of times, and that goal is good… what is this? How do we explain this?”
Cassano then referenced a famous incident from his playing days: “I lost a Scudetto with Milan because of Muntari’s goal. But what did the referee see then?”
