Champions League | Lille v Juventus: Probable starting lineups

Start

As Lille prepare to host Juventus in a crucial Champions League encounter, manager Bruno Genesio’s selection strategy remains a topic of intrigue. The French side have already made 10 changes to their lineup in the competition this season, joint-most among all participating teams, highlighting Genesio’s flexible approach to team selection.

Despite the rotations, one constant for Lille is expected to be their talismanic striker, Jonathan David. The Canadian international has been in scintillating form in Europe’s premier club competition, netting six goals in his last eight appearances. Notably, Les Dogues have emerged victorious in all five matches where David has found the back of the net, underscoring his importance to the team’s success.

However, Lille’s squad depth will be tested as they face several injury concerns. Forward Remy Cabella is doubtful due to a recent thigh issue, while Tiago Santos, Ismaily, Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, and Ethan Mbappe are all sidelined with various injuries. On a positive note, defender Alexsandro returns from suspension, bolstering Lille’s backline.

Juventus, too, grapple with defensive absences. Brazilian center-back Danilo is suspended for the match, and his compatriot Bremer is out with a severe knee injury sustained during their victory over Leipzig. The Italian giants will also miss summer acquisition Nico Gonzalez, who continues to struggle with a thigh problem.

There are, however, some positive developments for Juventus. Midfielder Teun Koopmeiners made his first start in weeks during the weekend fixture, while Douglas Luiz is set to return to the squad. Former Lille winger Tim Weah, who scored eight goals in 107 appearances for the French club, is likely to retain his place in support of striker Dusan Vlahovic, adding an intriguing subplot to this high-stakes encounter.
