Cesc Fabregas expressed his disappointment following Como’s 5-1 defeat to Lazio in their recent Serie A clash. Speaking to the media after the match, the Como manager provided his insights on the game and his team’s performance.
Fabregas acknowledged that Lazio proved to be a formidable opponent, especially in the first half. He highlighted Castellanos’ impact against Dossena and Audero’s crucial save on Pedro’s attempt as key moments. While Como managed to score in the second half, Fabregas emphasized that such mistakes cannot be made at this level of competition.
The Spanish coach admitted that the final scoreline was heavy, but he noted that the team became unbalanced after conceding the third goal. He stated, “The final deficit doesn’t worry me more than necessary. Up until the 3-1 score, we weren’t doing badly. We need to continue growing.”
When asked about the quality difference between the two teams, Fabregas refused to use it as an excuse. He emphasized the importance of making a difference at home and criticized his team’s lack of maturity and intelligence in the first half. “We need to recover quickly to avoid further risks,” he added.
Looking ahead to their upcoming match against Empoli, Fabregas described it as crucial. He took responsibility for the first-half performance and expressed more satisfaction with the second half. “I need to work on the players’ mentality. We have a really delicate match coming up that could allow us to get our season back on track,” he stated.
Regarding his decision to start Cerri over Belotti, Fabregas explained that Cerri was tasked with occupying the penalty area more effectively. He confirmed that Belotti would start in the next game and expressed regret over Cerri’s missed opportunity in front of goal, saying, “I need to help them improve.”
