Bologna’s head coach Vincenzo Italiano addressed the media following his team’s impressive victory over Cagliari, expressing satisfaction with the performance and dedicating the win to the people of Bologna.
“It’s a beautiful victory that we dedicate to all the people of Bologna for what they’re going through,” Italiano began. “We were very keen to dedicate these 3 points to the people in difficulty, and we put that into our performance as well. Seeing the league table today gave us the push to go on the field and showcase our qualities. We did well, unlike in Genoa, and we brought it home. You could see in the eyes of the boys the desire to win.”
Italiano praised his team’s game management, noting, “We took measure after the first 10 minutes. It was a game with defensive attention, which must never be lacking. We conceded very little to Cagliari. I hope this game can leave great self-esteem for the next match.”
When asked if this was the first real test of maturity for the group, Italiano responded, “In my opinion, this is the first real test where everyone gave their maximum in terms of quality and attention, and everyone put in a great performance. Quality and commitment have never been lacking, but we all need to elevate our individual conditions. The postponement with Milan allowed us to add days of work.”
The coach also commented on individual performances, including Orsolini’s progress and Ndoye’s contribution. “For Ndoye, these performances should be the norm. If he adds some goals to his performances, he can inspire his teammates. I liked him today,” Italiano said.
Regarding tactical decisions, Italiano explained, “I’m liking Odgaard for the application he’s putting in during the week, and he convinced me in this new role. For us, finding a player with his qualities who can help the midfield and cause trouble up front is important.”
Italiano concluded by highlighting the team’s aggressive approach in midfield as a key factor in the victory: “We wanted to disrupt all of Cagliari’s balls. I was surprised to see Cagliari’s formation, and I told the boys to defuse all the quality of the Sardinians. If the midfield is aggressive and qualitative in possession, you often win matches.”
