Former Roma striker Antonio Cassano has unleashed a blistering critique of Ivan Juric’s management of AS Roma during a recent episode of “Viva el Futbol.” Cassano, known for his outspoken nature, did not mince words when discussing the current state of his former club.
Cassano began his tirade by addressing Juric’s claims about his first 40 days at the helm. “Juric talks about 40 days, but excluding the first match against Udinese, the initial 37 days have been utter garbage,” Cassano stated bluntly. He went on to elaborate that after winning the opening fixture, the team’s performance has been abysmal in every subsequent match. The ex-Roma star expressed bewilderment at Juric’s positive outlook, questioning what the coach could possibly see in the team’s recent performances.
Cassano didn’t stop at criticism; he also offered his thoughts on potential solutions for Roma’s woes. “I hope Roma can bring in Mancini,” he suggested, referring to Roberto Mancini, the former Italian national team coach. He emphasized that Daniele De Rossi, another Roma legend, should decline any offer to take over at this point.
The club’s management didn’t escape Cassano’s ire either. He placed significant blame on the organization, describing their actions as “disastrous” and suggesting they now have to face the consequences of their decisions.
In Cassano’s view, Juric’s time at Roma is effectively over. He praised Mancini as a potential replacement, noting, “At least Mancini has the guts.” Cassano believes that Roma’s stature demands coaches of a certain caliber, implying that Juric doesn’t meet that standard. Drawing an unflattering comparison, Cassano likened Juric to Walter Mazzarri, another coach known for his defensive tactics and mixed results at top clubs.
Cassano concluded his impassioned speech with a sentiment that encapsulates his frustration and affection for his former club: “Roma doesn’t deserve this.” This statement underlines his belief that the current situation falls far short of the club’s potential and historical significance.
