D’Aversa: “We must be perfect tomorrow. De Sciglio can make his mark”

Empoli manager Roberto D’Aversa addressed the media in a press conference ahead of his team’s match with Inter. He discussed the team’s performance, key players, and their upcoming match.

Speaking about Mattia De Sciglio, D’Aversa said, “Mattia is our most representative player, we evaluate everything. He’s one of those who wasn’t feeling great, which affected his playing time. Certainly, when he’s fit, he can make his mark, both in terms of experience and technical quality. He’s very good at reading the game and has a lot of quality.”

When asked if the team was suffering from a numerical deficit in the squad, D’Aversa responded, “When I say we shouldn’t forget who we are, this is what I mean. If Pellegri, for example, were 100% fit, I could give Colombo a rest. We’re aware of these situations, but we need to be good at conditioning players without risking injuries. Numerically, this is what we have.”

Regarding the offensive phase and Solbakken’s performance, D’Aversa emphasized the team’s mentality: “More than individual performances, what matters to me is the team’s mentality. When the team takes the field with a proactive attitude, it can be a form of defense. Tomorrow we face a difficult match; we can’t dwell on individuals. Some may think Solbakken had a negative performance, but in my opinion, it was positive.”

Looking ahead to their next match, D’Aversa stressed the need for perfection: “Tomorrow we need to be perfect in all aspects; we know that 100% might not be enough.”
