Nesta reflects on Monza draw with Venezia: “A bad first half, but I’m happy with the reaction”

In the aftermath of Monza’s 2-2 draw with Venezia at the U-Power Stadium, head coach Alessandro Nesta shared his thoughts on the team’s performance. Despite falling behind twice, Monza managed to salvage a point, maintaining their momentum following a victory against Verona in the previous round.

Nesta began by acknowledging the team’s poor start: “In the first half, we started badly and conceded two goals. The good thing is that we came back twice in this game. We tried to push for a win at the end, but unfortunately we were reduced to ten men.”

The coach emphasized the need for analysis: “We need to understand and analyze with clarity the reasons for this poor first half. We wanted to win, but given how the game unfolded, this result is acceptable.”

When asked about the negative aspects of the match, Nesta responded: “Sometimes there are clean games in terms of play, and others less so. Unfortunately, we weren’t effective in the second half when we had good opportunities. We could have done more.”

Addressing the team’s mentality, Nesta dismissed the notion that the importance of the match had affected his players: “In Verona, we really had more pressure because we hadn’t won for a long time. I personally felt more pressure for that game with Hellas than this one with Venezia.”

Nesta also commented on the team’s shooting statistics: “In the first few games, it’s true, we shot little. But between Verona, Venezia, and the previous ones, we’ve shot more. Certainly, however, we need more precision in the final pass in the shooting zone; sometimes we’re a bit frantic.”

When asked if he would have been satisfied with four points from the last two games before the Verona match, Nesta replied: “Yes, because we pulled off the coup in Verona. And clearly, we had our mouths set for another success. But it’s okay, this is a team that needs enthusiasm. We need enthusiasm, but it’s fine like this.”
