Pecchia reflects on Parma’s draw with Empoli: “Anger, but satisfaction for the comeback”

Start

Parma manager Fabio Pecchia expressed mixed emotions following his team’s 1-1 draw against Empoli in Serie A. In his post-match press conference, Pecchia acknowledged the frustration of missed opportunities while praising his team’s resilience.

“We’re not in Serie B anymore,” Pecchia began, addressing the difference in performance between the two halves. “We’re used to dominating games, but now we’re up against Serie A teams. For those who have followed Parma, a second half of dominance might seem natural, but it’s not like that. We’re a team fighting for survival.”

Pecchia highlighted the tactical adjustments made during the match, particularly the repositioning of Adrian Bernabé. “Adrian needs to get used to playing under constant pressure. We rely on him a lot to clean up and improve our play,” he explained.

When questioned about the points dropped in unusual circumstances, Pecchia remained optimistic: “We shouldn’t let it weigh on us. We must persist. The team has maintained its identity. We’ve played important matches, then certain situations have cost us points. But this is an ordinary journey, there’s nothing particular about it. This is Serie A.”

The manager praised the impact of substitute Mandela Keita, noting his growing integration into the team. “Keita came on well today. His insertion into the group is getting faster. He has different characteristics compared to the others, allowing us to play with a deep-lying playmaker as well.”

Regarding the missed penalty that could have won the game, Pecchia remained philosophical: “I didn’t get angry, it just happened that way. It had been a great action, and the lead would have been deserved.”

In conclusion, Pecchia summed up his feelings about the match: “A bit of everything. Anger, satisfaction for the reaction. It’s a point.”
