Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi addressed the media ahead of the highly anticipated Derby d’Italia against Juventus. The match, scheduled for Sunday, October 27th at 18:00 at San Siro, comes on the heels of Inter’s Champions League victory against Young Boys.

Inzaghi emphasized the importance of the fixture, stating, “We know the importance of the game and what it means for our club. Being the ninth match of the season, it won’t be decisive, but it will have great significance.” He noted that both teams have had similar paths in Serie A and Champions League this season.

The Inter boss expressed confidence in his team’s form, mentioning a streak of five consecutive wins. However, he acknowledged some minor physical issues that might limit their options.

Regarding the Scudetto race, Inzaghi believes it’s more open and balanced compared to the last two seasons. “We know we start with clear objectives, and we’ll try to play as many games as possible to advance in the cups. Like Inter, I think there are 4-5 other teams credited to win,” he said.

Inzaghi praised Juventus’s defensive prowess, noting they are the best in Europe in that aspect. He expects a tight contest, recalling the balanced nature of their previous encounters. “We’ve played 10 games with Juve since I’ve been here, and there’s always been great balance, with two ending in extra time,” he remarked.

On the potential replacement for Calhanoglu, Inzaghi mentioned Asllani as the natural substitute but also highlighted Barella and Zielinski as options, indicating he would make a final decision closer to the match.

The manager also touched on new signing Buchanan’s progress, the impact of a wet field, and the emotional aspect of the Thuram brothers facing each other.

Inzaghi concluded by reflecting on his own experiences of facing his brother Pippo in similar high-stakes matches, adding a personal touch to the pre-match buildup.
