Torino manager Paolo Vanoli expressed satisfaction with his team’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Como, describing it as a “true Torino victory” despite not being their most brilliant performance of the season. The coach highlighted the importance of character and determination in securing the three points.
Vanoli began by emphasizing the nature of the win: “It was the performance I was looking for: full of character and typical of Torino. It’s a Torino victory. We had delivered great performances with mixed results, but I was missing this characteristic. It should be a lesson; when you need to win at all costs, you can even get the tremors.”
The manager praised young player Njie, who scored his first Serie A goal: “I have many special young players. The youth team is not just a sparring partner; I’ve always told these boys that I keep them in consideration. I never look at the date of birth; we talk little about Dembele and Ciammaglichella too. It’s a stimulus for them to continue.”
Regarding the team’s defensive performance, Vanoli noted: “We’ve changed a lot; the boys need to understand my mechanisms, and I need to find continuity. Tonight, they played a great game at the back. Maripan showed personality in the finale, which are his characteristics. We need more courage with the ball, but there was great character.”
The coach also highlighted the team’s mental strength: “I wanted to see unity of intent from everyone. I wanted to see a single path to reach the result, and I must say they demonstrated it. Even those who came on understood the moment.”
Vanoli concluded by discussing the importance of youth development within the club: “It’s a satisfaction for the entire club; it means we’ve worked well. Since I’ve been here, I wanted to have a relationship with the youth team coach to understand how much they could grow. It’s beautiful to see these young players celebrating with their fans.”
