Juventus scout Brazilian defender Leo Ortiz

Start

Juventus are actively seeking to strengthen their defensive line in the upcoming January transfer window, with Cristiano Giuntoli, the club’s sporting director, acknowledging the need to “do something” and seize potential opportunities. The recent injury to Gleison Bremer has highlighted the team’s thin defensive coverage, prompting the club to explore options both in Italy and abroad.

According to recent reports from Tuttosport, a Juventus representative was sent to Brazil to observe the match between Corinthians and Flamengo, with a particular focus on central defender Leo Ortiz. The Brazilian, who also holds an Italian passport, has caught the eye of the Turin giants. However, Flamengo, where former Juventus player Alex Sandro now plays, seems reluctant to part with Ortiz at this time.

As a result, Juventus are  considering alternative targets. In Serie A, the club is showing interest in Sam Beukema, the Dutch defender from Bologna who is well-known to Thiago Motta, and Ardian Ismajli, who has been impressing at Empoli, even against top-tier opposition.

Looking beyond Italy, Juventus maintains its interest in Jakub Kiwior, a long-standing target for the club. Additionally, they are monitoring Jorrel Hato, a young and highly-rated defender from Ajax, though his acquisition would likely come at a significant cost.
