Nesta on first Monza victory: “We always work to win”

Start

Monza secured a crucial 3-0 victory against Verona in their latest Serie A encounter, marking their first win of the season. The Biancorossi’s performance was highlighted by Dany Mota’s brace and a goal from Bianco. Following the match, Monza’s coach Alessandro Nesta shared his thoughts with Sky Sports.

Reflecting on the game, Nesta began, “We work to win. We hadn’t won this season before today, so the wait has been long. We’re all very happy.”

The former AC Milan defender elaborated on their tactical approach: “For tonight, during the week we prepared attacks between the full-back and center-back with Mota. We wanted to draw them to the center, then to find Caprari. Djuric was also a factor, his flick-ons are crucial.”

Discussing the team’s defensive strategy, Nesta explained, “We know that if we can press with our forwards, we help the defense. In one-on-one duels, our players are very strong.”

Nesta also addressed the controversial topic of penalties in Serie A: “I’ve spoken with referees at meetings. In my opinion, too many penalties are given. It’s become extremely difficult to be a defender because you have to jump and mark with your arms behind your body. Six or seven penalties per Sunday isn’t right. However, this isn’t a criticism of the referees but of the regulations.”

Looking ahead, the Monza coach emphasized the importance of this victory: “Wins unlock everything. Losing or drawing blocks you a bit. When you win, it’s a whole different story. We need to grit our teeth a bit. I’ve complimented my players even when we’ve lost because they’ve always given their all.”
