Inter Milan have added a new face to their squad for the upcoming Champions League match against Young Boys in Bern on Wednesday. Mike Aidoo, a promising 19-year-old right-back from the Primavera team, has been called up by manager Simone Inzaghi due to recent injury concerns within the first team.
This isn’t Aidoo’s first brush with the senior squad. Inzaghi has been monitoring the young defender’s progress for some time, having previously included him in the squad for last year’s group stage match against Benfica. Aidoo also spent the entire summer training camp with the first team, featuring in several friendly matches and impressing the coaching staff.
Aidoo joined Inter from Chievo when he was just 16 years old, and has been a regular starter from the Under-17 level up to the Primavera. This season, he has already accumulated 585 minutes in the youth championship, starting every match and providing one assist. While not known for his goal-scoring prowess, Aidoo is praised for his stamina and attacking runs from the right-back position.
In the Primavera squad, Aidoo is considered one of the more experienced players, now in his fifth season with Inter. Last year marked his first full season as a regular starter, during which he appeared in 40 matches across all competitions.
The step-up to the senior team will undoubtedly be a challenge for the young defender, but Inzaghi’s decision to include him in the Champions League squad demonstrates the manager’s faith in Aidoo’s potential. For the player himself, the opportunity to travel with the team for a European fixture represents an exciting milestone in his developing career.
