The 6-0 home defeat against Fiorentina has put Lecce in a difficult position, marking their heaviest loss in Serie A history. This latest setback is the fourth consecutive defeat for the team, including their elimination from the Coppa Italia by Sassuolo. Since the start of the season, Lecce has managed only one Serie A victory at home against Cagliari, with two draws and five losses pushing them to third from bottom in the relegation zone.
Calciomercato report that this complicated situation has led the club to reconsider Luca Gotti’s position as head coach. The club’s leadership and management are evaluating Gotti’s performance and may opt for dismissal to give the team a much-needed boost. If Gotti is indeed removed, several potential replacements are being considered.
According to the report, Gabriele Cioffi, former coach of Udinese and Verona, is a favored candidate. Other names linked with the Lecce job include Leonardo Semplici, Davide Ballardini, and Aurelio Andreazzoli.
Gotti’s tenure at Lecce began in March of the previous year when he was brought in to replace the dismissed D’Aversa. At the time, Lecce was just one point above the relegation zone. Gotti managed to secure the team’s safety, finishing three points clear of relegation. This achievement earned him a contract extension for another year.
However, the current season has not gone according to plan. Results have been poor, and Gotti has struggled to establish a cohesive team. As a result, Corvino and the club management are seriously considering a change in leadership. The 6-0 defeat against Fiorentina may prove to be the final straw in Gotti’s time at Lecce.
