Bologna’s Italiano laments dropped points against Genoa

Start

Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano expressed his frustration after his team squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in their Serie A match. The result opened the 8th round of fixtures for the 2024/2025 season.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, Italiano lamented: “We had the need to win and we showed it, but some chances made us lose 2 points.”

The coach pointed to a key moment that changed the complexion of the match: “You know I never talk about episodes, but that ball that escaped Casale’s feet which reopened the game conditioned us.”

Italiano acknowledged his team’s lack of focus in the latter stages: “We have to learn that games are never over until the end. One episode is enough to put everything back in play.”

He highlighted defensive issues that need addressing: “We need to fix something in the defensive line because we can’t concede headers from the edge of the area. We need to increase attention to details during the week of training.”

When asked about his substitutions, Italiano admitted: “Certainly I expected more, but it’s never easy to come in and manage to impact and change the face of the game.”

The Bologna manager concluded by emphasizing the need for heightened concentration moving forward: “The problem is that now we need to pay much more attention to everything because we get punished at the first mistake.”
