Maldini dynasty continues: Daniel’s debut for Italy against Israel – “A strong emotion”

Start

The Maldini dynasty in Italian football has entered its third generation as Daniel Maldini made his debut for the national team in a Nations League match against Israel. The game, which ended in a 4-1 victory for Italy, took place at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, the very same venue where Daniel’s father, Paolo Maldini, made his AC Milan debut nearly four decades ago.

Daniel Maldini entered the pitch as a substitute in the 74th minute, marking a significant milestone in Italian football history. He becomes the third generation of Maldinis to represent the Azzurri, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Cesare and father Paolo. This achievement makes the Maldinis the first Italian family to have three generations play for the national team.

The young Maldini’s debut came 22 years and 118 days after Paolo’s last match for Italy, and an impressive 61 years and one day since Cesare’s final appearance. The emotional weight of this moment was palpable, with Paolo watching proudly from the stands alongside Daniel’s mother and brother.

After the match, Daniel shared his thoughts on his debut: “It was a strong sensation, positive. I’m very happy to have come on and that the game went well.” He noted that the team maintained control throughout the match, despite a brief moment when Israel scored.

When asked about what he hopes to bring to the national team, Daniel humbly stated, “I hope to bring a little quality, even if the squad already has plenty of it, and to help out as much as possible.”

At 23 years old, Daniel has been making waves with his club, Monza, scoring one goal in seven appearances this season. His call-up to the national team is a testament to his growing prowess on the field and the faith placed in him by coach Luciano Spalletti.
