Serie A | Genoa 2-2 Bologna: Match Report

Start

Genoa staged a remarkable comeback to salvage a 2-2 draw against Bologna in a thrilling Serie A encounter at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The match began with Bologna dominating proceedings, as Riccardo Orsolini tested Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali on multiple occasions. The visitors finally broke the deadlock when Orsolini’s deflected shot wrong-footed Leali to give Bologna the lead.

Bologna doubled their advantage early in the second half through Jens Odgaard, who capitalized on poor defending to fire home from the edge of the area. At 2-0 down, Genoa looked destined for another defeat in what has been a difficult season so far.

However, the home side mounted an impressive fightback in the final 20 minutes. Andrea Pinamonti sparked the revival, curling home a fine finish after a defensive error from Nicolò Casale. The striker then completed the comeback with a looping header from Aaron Martin’s free-kick that left Bologna goalkeeper Nicola Ravaglia stranded.

The result gives Genoa a vital point in their battle against relegation, while Bologna will be disappointed to have squandered a two-goal lead. Both teams continue to struggle with injury crises and poor form as they look to climb the Serie A table.

The draw maintains Genoa’s unbeaten home record against Bologna, stretching back to 2016. For the visitors, it represents another missed opportunity after failing to hold onto a lead – a recurring issue for Thiago Motta’s side this season.
