Marseille eyeing Pogba for January move as midfielder prepares for Kings Cup return

Start

Paul Pogba is set to become a key figure in the upcoming January transfer window, following the reduction of his doping ban from four years to 18 months. This development allows the French midfielder to return to competitive football much sooner than initially expected.

Currently under contract with Juventus, Pogba’s future with the Italian club looks uncertain. The player and the club have already held preliminary discussions about terminating his contract, as it appears there is no place for him in Juventus’ plans moving forward.

According to reports from Calciomercato, Marseille, under the management of Roberto De Zerbi, has emerged as a potential destination for Pogba. The French club has reportedly made initial contact regarding a possible free transfer in January. This move would align with Marseille’s recent ambitious transfer strategy, which has seen them bring in high-profile players like Mason Greenwood and Adrien Rabiot.

While Pogba won’t be eligible for official matches until March 2025, he is set to make an earlier return to the pitch in an unofficial capacity. The French star is scheduled to participate in the Kings Cup, a friendly tournament featuring former football legends, to be held in Dubai this November.

The Kings Cup will see Pogba sharing the field with other football icons such as Michael Owen, Paul Scholes, David Silva, John Terry, and Roberto Carlos. However, special rules will be in place for Pogba’s participation. He will be limited to playing only 30 minutes (15 minutes per half), wear a special shirt, and will not be subject to offside rules or disciplinary actions like yellow or red cards.

This exhibition match offers Pogba a unique opportunity to step back onto the football field, albeit in a controlled environment, as he prepares for his official return to professional football in 2025.
