Juventus faces selection challenges ahead of Cagliari clash: Douglas Luiz set to start

Start

Juventus manager Thiago Motta is grappling with several player absences as his team prepares to face Cagliari in their upcoming match. The squad will be without key players Arek Milik, Vasilije Adzic, Nico Gonzalez, and Gleison Bremer. Additionally, Timothy Weah, despite returning to group training, is still experiencing physical issues and will not be included in the squad.

The attacking options are particularly limited, while the defense will feel the significant absence of Bremer, who is sidelined for an extended period due to a cruciate ligament rupture. Motta expressed his disappointment, stating, “Gleison is an important player, I’m very sorry, both technically and personally. From now on, we will all give something extra,” highlighting the team’s collective spirit in the face of adversity.

To address the defensive gap left by Bremer, Motta is considering two main options. The primary plan involves positioning Gatti in the center of defense alongside Kalulu, with Savona on the right. However, Gatti is still dealing with a minor ankle discomfort. If necessary, Savona could be moved to the center, with McKennie potentially filling in as right-back, a role he assumed in the second half against Leipzig.

Changes are also expected in midfield, with Locatelli and Douglas Luiz likely to replace McKennie and Fagioli, who exerted significant effort in the recent match in Germany.
