In a candid interview with Napoli’s official channels, Romelu Lukaku shared insights into his career journey and his recent transfer to the Italian club. The 31-year-old Belgian striker, now donning the Napoli colors, reflected on his early days in football and his path to becoming a professional.

Lukaku spoke fondly of his roots, mentioning his father’s career in the Belgian top flight and his own start in football at the age of six. He recounted his time at various clubs, including Anderlecht, where he made his professional debut. “My debut at Anderlecht was such a strong feeling. It was something I had dreamed of since I was six years old,” Lukaku reminisced.

The striker also touched on his personal life, describing himself as initially shy but fully committed to those who treat him well. He emphasized the importance of his children and his passion for football, stating, “My children are the most important part of my life, and I’m 100% focused on football because it’s my job and also my passion.”

Discussing his move to Napoli, Lukaku revealed the role his friend Dries Mertens played in preparing him for life in the city. “I already had a trusted friend who was preparing me for life here,” he said with a laugh. He expressed awe at the reception he received during his presentation, saying, “I was overwhelmed by my presentation. It was all so incredible. I was like: ‘Wow!'”

Lukaku also shared his approach to the game and life in Naples. “As a player, I now take things day by day. I try to give a little more every day and see where it takes me by the end of the season,” he explained. He emphasized his commitment to continuous improvement and the sacrifices required during the season.

When asked about learning Neapolitan, Lukaku humorously responded, “No, but when I go to the physiotherapist in the morning, I try to understand what the guys are saying, but it’s hard. I’ll get there slowly. Give me a couple of months, then I hope to have a chat with someone when I go to the supermarket, who knows!”

Lukaku’s interview paints a picture of a dedicated professional excited about his new chapter in Naples, ready to immerse himself in the club’s culture and connect with the passionate fanbase.
