Roma’s new sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has given his first interview since joining the club from Nice, sharing insights on the Friedkins’ vision, upcoming changes, and key player situations.
Speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato) Ghisolfi emphasized the owners’ ambitions, stating, “The Friedkins want a great team in the new stadium.” He also addressed rumors about the potential Everton purchase, asserting, “The acquisition of Everton? Nothing will change for Roma.”
The club is focusing on building stability and expanding its management structure. Ghisolfi revealed, “We want a club that is not dependent on coaches or directors. We’re creating stability by expanding management. We’ve avoided loans to increase the value of the club’s player assets. A CEO will be announced soon.”
He also announced a new addition to the staff: “Mark Sertori is the new performance director, and we will rebuild the scouting department.”
Regarding Daniele De Rossi’s departure, Ghisolfi acknowledged the fans’ reaction: “The fans’ reaction is understandable. Daniele is a legend, and I always had an honest relationship with him. The decision to dismiss him was made in agreement with the Friedkins. Now we must look ahead.”
On new coach Ivan Juric, he commented, “He arrived with humility and respect for both De Rossi and the players. The context was difficult, and he has already achieved results. I’m discovering a man and a coach of quality.”
Addressing Paulo Dybala’s situation, Ghisolfi stated, “He chose to stay with his heart, now he must play with a free mind, giving his best. We never asked coaches to play him less because of his contract renewal, and we weren’t the ones who found him an Arab club.”
On the transfer market, he explained, “It’s said we’re missing a full-back, but playing with three at the back, we have several wide players. Towards the end of the market, with De Rossi, we decided the formation would change, which is why we signed Hermoso and Hummels.”
Regarding contract renewals, Ghisolfi said, “We hope to find a solution for Zalewski; we don’t want to lose him on a free transfer. We’re also discussing Pisilli’s renewal, while Svilar has already proven he deserves it and will get it.”
Finally, on the club’s ambitions, he declared, “You’ll never hear me talk about a transition period. There are also short-term objectives, and Roma deserves to be in the Champions League.”
