Genoa President Zangrillo: “The closed-door match was a disadvantage, but we have confidence in Gilardino”

Start

Alberto Zangrillo, president of Genoa, shared his thoughts on the clubs recent defeat to Juventus, following the Serie A League Assembly meeting. He addressed several key issues, including the recent Coppa Italia derby loss, the closed-door match against Juventus, and the club’s stance on manager Alberto Gilardino.

Regarding the match against Juventus played behind closed doors, Zangrillo stated, “If this decision was made, I believe it was the right one. The important thing is to maintain a uniform approach in similar situations, because unfortunately, events like these don’t only happen in Genoa. It was also discussed in today’s Assembly. Our fans are a crucial factor, so we were at a disadvantage.”

On the topic of manager Alberto Gilardino, Zangrillo reaffirmed the club’s support: “He’s doing well where he is, he’s calm, and I stand with him.” This statement clearly indicates that Gilardino’s position at the club remains secure despite recent challenges.

When asked about potential moves in the free agent market, specifically regarding Candreva, Zangrillo distanced himself from transfer dealings, saying, “I don’t deal with these matters.”
