AC Milan forward Rafael Leao spoke to the media ahead of the team’s Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen. The Portuguese attacker shared insights on his development under coach Paulo Fonseca and his personal approach to leadership on the pitch.
Leao highlighted the impact Fonseca has had on his game, particularly in improving his defensive work: “I’m more focused on defensive work now, which helps me to be better positioned, and I like it. On the way here in the car, the coach showed me a couple of videos from the last match. He’s helping me a lot and will help me become a more complete player. I believe he will continue to do so throughout this season.”
The young star elaborated on the specific aspects Fonseca is working on with him: “He showed me positioning without the ball, how to close down spaces inside, and other defensive aspects.”
Addressing his personality and leadership style, Leao described himself as reserved: “I have a reserved character; I’m a shy guy who doesn’t like to talk much. Even as captain, I don’t speak a lot. I speak more on the field. My strength is to play quality matches to help the team.”
