Danilo set to start for Juventus against Genoa, but future remains uncertain

Start

Danilo is finally set to return to Juventus’ starting lineup for their match against Genoa today, as surprisingly revealed by manager Thiago Motta in yesterday’s press conference. The Brazilian defender has found himself lower in the pecking order so far this season, even falling behind new signing Pierre Kalulu at times.

While Danilo will get the nod at Marassi, this doesn’t necessarily mean he has regained a permanent spot among the first-choice defenders. There are still many uncertainties surrounding his role and future at the club.

Danilo’s current contract with Juventus expires in June 2025. However, there is an option for automatic renewal for an additional year if he reaches 50% of appearances this season. Given his limited playing time so far, achieving that threshold is far from guaranteed.

In fact, rumors have circulated in recent weeks about a potential January departure for the 32-year-old. The coming weeks will therefore be crucial for Danilo to prove his worth and secure his place in Motta’s plans going forward.

Today’s match against Genoa represents a big opportunity for Danilo to stake his claim for more regular playing time. A strong performance could help silence doubts about his future, while a poor showing may further fuel speculation about an exit.
