Genoa-Juventus match to be played behind closed doors

Start

The anticipated Serie A clash between Genoa and Juventus will be played without spectators, as officially confirmed by authorities. This decision comes in the wake of violent incidents involving some Genoa supporters before and after the Coppa Italia derby on Wednesday evening. The Prefect of Genoa, following recommendations from the Observatory on Sporting Events, has ordered that the match scheduled for Saturday evening at 18:00 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium be held behind closed doors.

The closure means that the stands of the Marassi stadium will be empty for a fixture that was almost certain to have been a sell-out. While the over 28,000 Genoa season ticket holders will miss out on watching the game against Juventus live, they will also not receive any refund. Article 10 of the season ticket agreement stipulates that no reimbursement, even partial, will be provided in case of stadium closure for any reason or field disqualification.

However, fans who had purchased individual tickets for the match will be able to claim a refund. Genoa will soon announce the procedure for obtaining reimbursements through their official channels.

The sanctions for Genoa supporters extend beyond this match. For the next three away games in the league, the away sections will be closed when Genoa plays at Atalanta (October 5), Lazio (October 27), and Parma (November 4).
