AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca stressed the significance of their upcoming Serie A match against Lecce in his pre-match press conference. Following victories over Venezia and Inter, Milan are seeking their third consecutive league win at San Siro.
Fonseca began by highlighting the match’s importance: “This game is very important. We must confirm that we are growing. We need to recover points and everything is important to have the motivation to win tomorrow. However, it’s a dangerous game after the derby, we must be careful but we cannot make mistakes.”
The Portuguese coach addressed injury concerns, particularly regarding striker Alvaro Morata: “Morata had a contusion that caused bursitis, he had a problem in training and needs to be evaluated, but it’s time to give continuity and he will be called up. We have this doubt but we’ll see tomorrow.”
Fonseca also discussed Rafael Leao’s development: “We’re working a lot individually with Leao, even defensively. He can do better but he’s growing. Rafa had 3 opportunities to be decisive, it doesn’t seem to me that he can’t be a decisive player. He’s playing with the team and doing a good job.”
On the topic of squad rotation, Fonseca stated: “I like to rotate because I have confidence in all the players. But now is not the time to change too much: now is the time to stabilize the team. We have many games and we can’t always play with the same players.”
Regarding defensive selections, he confirmed: “Gabbia and Tomori will play tomorrow, for the Bayer match we’ll see.”
Fonseca concluded by discussing individual players, including Yunus Musah and Samuel Chukwueze, emphasizing the importance of confidence and adaptability within the squad as they aim to build on their recent positive results.
