Gasperini reflects on Como loss: “I saw players drained of energy”

Start

Atalanta suffered a surprising 3-2 home defeat against Como, despite taking an early lead through Davide Zappacosta in the 18th minute. The visitors mounted a comeback early in the second half, scoring three goals between the 45th and 60th minutes. Ademola Lookman’s late penalty proved insufficient for Atalanta. In the post-match interview, manager Gian Piero Gasperini analyzed his team’s performance.

Gasperini began by discussing the overall match: “We started well but gradually faded. I saw players drained of energy. The second half began in the worst possible way, and we come out of this match poorly. We made many changes to assess some players, but we certainly didn’t perform well.”

The Atalanta coach continued: “In other matches, we conceded goals from set pieces. Today that wasn’t the case, but we had great difficulties in midfield. They had a speed and technique that we couldn’t counter.”

Gasperini concluded the interview by discussing Zaniolo and the new players in general: “When Zaniolo is ready, he’ll be able to play and contribute. We’re waiting to see him at his best. We’re trying to integrate players, but we need to do so in both the league and Champions League. We’ve relied on many players who usually give us more certainty.”
