The Serie A match between Atalanta and Como, originally scheduled for Monday evening, has been postponed to Tuesday, September 24, due to adverse weather conditions. The game, initially set to kick off at 20:45, was delayed and eventually rescheduled as heavy rain continued to pour over the Gewiss Stadium.
Match referee Tremolada, along with team captains Martin De Roon and Patrick Cutrone, conducted an initial pitch inspection at 20:45. At that time, they decided to wait and reassess the situation, hoping for an improvement in conditions.
A second inspection took place at 21:15, which initially yielded a positive outcome. The ball appeared to bounce more normally, and both captains gave their approval to start the match. A new kick-off time of 21:45 was agreed upon.
However, just minutes before the rescheduled start time, there was another twist in events. Atalanta expressed concerns about proceeding with the match, prompting a third and final inspection. During this assessment, it became clear that the rainfall had intensified since the previous check, and the ball was no longer bouncing properly on the waterlogged pitch.
Given these deteriorating conditions, officials made the decision to postpone the match to Tuesday, September 24, at 20:45.
The challenging pitch conditions had been apparent to players even during the warm-up session. The persistent heavy rainfall had rendered parts of the field unsuitable for play, with the ball struggling to bounce in certain areas.
