In the aftermath of Inter Milan’s defeat to city rivals AC Milan, team captain and striker Lautaro Martinez spoke candidly about the team’s performance and his personal struggles. In an interview with Dazn following the match, Martinez didn’t mince words about the team’s shortcomings and his own form.
“We didn’t play the match as we had prepared,” Martinez began, highlighting the team’s failure to execute their game plan. “From the very beginning, we didn’t approach it well. Maybe slightly better in the second half, but not really.”
The Argentine striker emphasized the need for improvement across the board, starting with himself. “We need to work, work, and work to raise our level. I’m the first one who needs to do this. I feel the responsibility on my shoulders.”
Martinez also addressed his personal form, comparing it to his stellar performance last season. “I know I’m not doing as well as last year, but these things happen. I’ll try to work twice as hard to get back to my best, to help the team.”
When asked about potentially surpassing Bobo Vieri’s Serie A goal tally, Martinez’s response revealed his current state of mind: “I’m struggling right now…”
