Milan Mayor Sala responds to Barbara Berlusconi’s criticism of San Siro stadium plans

Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala has responded to criticism from Barbara Berlusconi, former CEO of AC Milan and daughter of the late Silvio Berlusconi, regarding the ongoing saga of the San Siro stadium renovation.

The controversy arose following a meeting between the Milan municipality, Inter Milan, and AC Milan, where it was decided to abandon plans for renovating the existing San Siro stadium in favor of building a new shared stadium in the same area.

Barbara Berlusconi expressed her disappointment with the situation, stating, “The stadium affair is humiliating for a city like Milan, a symbol of modernity, innovation, and always ahead of its time. It’s a true Italian comedy designed specifically to decide nothing. Months have been wasted to confirm the obvious: that San Siro is not actually renovatable, because the potential costs are unsustainable and far from the figure that was presented. We’ve returned to the 2019 proposal. It’s disheartening to note that, like in the game of goose, we always return to the starting point.”

In response to these comments, Mayor Sala addressed the issue during a public event, saying, “I wouldn’t know what to say, but if she has ideas and opinions, given her experience and that of her family, it’s right that she makes herself heard by the clubs. Being the mayor of Milan is a job of great solitude. Regarding the stadium, I will enforce what the City Council has decided, and I invite everyone not to pretend to forget what politics has already explored in depth.”
