Empoli’s new manager Roberto D’Aversa addressed the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of their Serie A encounter with Juventus. The Italian coach discussed various topics, including team news and tactical considerations.
D’Aversa provided an update on new signing Faustino Anjorin, stating, “He’s a complete midfielder who can play in a two or three-man midfield. I think he can also play as an attacking midfielder; he’s technically very good. I’m not sure about his playing time yet, but it’s likely he’ll be involved during the match.”
Regarding long-term injured players, D’Aversa revealed, “They’re still working separately. The doctor will be more precise about the timelines. One thing I want to mention is that De Sciglio will be with us on the bench. He asked for it, and it was right to accommodate him even though he’s not ready to play yet.”
Reflecting on his time observing from the stands due to suspension, D’Aversa said, “It taught me to be more attentive on the sidelines. You see the game better from above, but I prefer to experience the match up close.”
When discussing Juventus and their manager Thiago Motta, D’Aversa was full of praise: “Motta has only managed a few games, but they haven’t conceded a goal yet. It means he works well. At Bologna, he had a very important journey. He’s a very well-prepared coach, and his teams are complete both in defensive and offensive phases.”
D’Aversa continued, “Studying their matches this year, they’ve shown a defensive attitude. We must be ready to face an aggressive Juventus. They’re very good at defending and counterattacking with pacey players, in addition to having quality individuals. On our part, there must be no margin for error.”
Addressing tactical considerations, D’Aversa emphasized the importance of winning individual battles across the pitch: “Juventus has many attacking wingers, and even their full-backs are prone to push forward. The duel on the flanks is important, but in reality, we need to win duels in all areas of the field.”
When asked about potential formation changes, D’Aversa remained coy: “I wouldn’t want to give Juventus any advantages, but the playing system isn’t important. We have a certain style of play, but we can also change our defensive approach based on the opponent. I hope to play the match we’ve prepared for.”
