Cesc Fabregas’ Como are set for their Serie A home debut at Stadio Sinigaglia against Bologna on Saturday and will be aiming for their first win of the season. The Azzurri host a Bologna side struggling for form, and will be able to count on Daniele Baselli and Simone Verdi, who have both recovered and will be available for selection.
Fabregas shared his thoughts on the upcoming match at his customary pre-game presser, saying: “I don’t think much will change compared to the Udine game. Some players like Braunoder and Fadera have just returned from national team duties; we’ll assess their condition tomorrow. The match against Bologna will be a crucial test for us. They’re a Champions League team with many internationals and are ahead of us in development. We need to play an intelligent game and maintain maximum focus, which we’ve prepared for.”
He added, “Their coach, Italiano, is someone I greatly respect, especially for how he makes his teams play. Of course, in football, points matter, and we’ll do everything to win. It’s too early to look at the league table; I’m not worried.”
Regarding the two-week break since the Udinese match, Fabregas noted: “Having more time was important and allowed us to grow as a group. The friendly we played last week was also useful for this. We’ve worked hard.”
With a sold-out Sinigaglia expected and high fan anticipation, Fabregas commented: “I like having a passionate atmosphere. Our fans have always supported us, even last year, and they’ll do so even more this season. Their support is important, and it’s great to have a full stadium.”
On the possibility of Audero starting as goalkeeper, Fabregas said: “Emil is a great goalkeeper and ready to play. Pepe has done well and has been important in the build-up phase too. It’s not a definitive choice.”
Addressing the offensive struggles in the early season, Fabregas remained optimistic: “I’m not particularly worried about this because we have four strikers who have always scored. I’m sure the situation will change soon as we’re taking many shots at the opponent’s goal.”
The Como coach also expressed high expectations for young players like Nico Paz and Perrone: “I expect a lot from them. They’re very young and talented; it’s up to me to help them grow.”
Regarding Sergi Roberto, Fabregas was confident: “He’s an important player for us and wants to become a key figure. He’s ready to start.”
