Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray are exploring their options in the left-back position as the summer transfer window in Turkey approaches its conclusion on Friday night. While Roma’s Nicola Zalewski remains their primary target, the club is already lining up alternatives, with Napoli’s Mario Rui emerging as a potential candidate.
Sky Sport Italia report that Galatasaray’s management is eagerly awaiting Zalewski’s final decision, expected by Wednesday night. However, should negotiations with the Polish international fall through, the Turkish club is prepared to swiftly shift their focus to Mario Rui.
The 33-year-old Portuguese defender finds himself in a precarious position at Napoli. Having been informed earlier in the summer that he was not part of Antonio Conte’s plans, Rui’s standing in the squad has further diminished following the arrival of Leonardo Spinazzola from Roma.
Mario Rui’s extensive experience in Serie A, where he has played for clubs like Parma, Empoli, Roma, and Napoli since 2011, makes him an attractive option for Galatasaray. His potential move could offer him a new challenge and regular playing time, which has become increasingly scarce at Napoli.
As the transfer deadline looms, Galatasaray are keeping its options open. Earlier reports from Sabah Sport also linked West Ham’s Emerson Palmieri with the Turkish club, highlighting their determination to strengthen their left-back position before the window closes.
