Parma have received devastating news regarding their young Polish attacking midfielder, Mateusz Kowalski. The 19-year-old talent, who made his Serie A debut as a starter in Parma’s recent 2-1 away loss to Napoli, has suffered a severe knee injury while training with the Polish Under-20 national team.
The club released an official statement detailing the extent of Kowalski’s injury:
“The Parma Calcio medical staff announce that Mateusz Kowalski is unfortunately injured, after an incident during a training session with the U20 Poland squad on Tuesday 3 September. After orthopaedic and diagnostic tests were carried out, Mateusz was found to have ruptured his right Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and will undergo surgery in the next few days.”
This injury is a significant setback for both the player and the club, as Kowalski was beginning to break into the first team under manager Fabio Pecchia. The timing is particularly unfortunate, coming just days after his full Serie A debut against Napoli.
The club’s statement concluded with words of encouragement for the young player:
“All of Parma Calcio wishes Mateusz a speedy return to the field, stronger than ever. We are with you, Mateusz!”
Anterior cruciate ligament injuries typically require several months of recovery and rehabilitation, meaning Kowalski is likely to miss a substantial portion of the 2024-25 season.
