Lazio’s Europa League journey: From Kiev opener to Braga finale

Start

Lazio are gearing up for an exciting adventure in the revamped Europa League, which introduces a new format this season. The Biancocelesti will face eight different opponents in a “league-style” phase, aiming to secure a spot in the round of 16. Following yesterday’s draw, the official schedule with dates and times for Lazio’s matches has been released.

The Italian side kicks off their campaign with an away fixture against Dynamo Kyiv on September 25th at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, Germany. This unusual venue is due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Their first home game comes on October 3rd against Nice at the Stadio Olimpico.

October 24th sees Lazio travel to the Netherlands to face Twente, followed by a crucial home match against Porto on November 7th. The team then hosts Ludogorets on November 28th before another Dutch adventure, this time against Ajax in Amsterdam on December 12th.

The new year brings two final group stage matches: a home game against Real Sociedad on January 23rd and the group finale away to Sporting Braga in Portugal on January 30th.

This diverse schedule presents Lazio with a mix of challenging opponents from across Europe. The matches against Porto and Ajax stand out as particularly intriguing fixtures, while the clash with Real Sociedad could prove pivotal in determining the group’s outcome.

As Lazio navigates this new format, they’ll need to maintain consistency across these eight matches to secure a favorable position in the league table. The top teams will advance directly to the knockout stages, making every point crucial in this competitive European campaign.

With a blend of home comforts at the Olimpico and testing away trips, Maurizio Sarri’s men have their work cut out for them. Lazio fans will be eagerly anticipating these European nights, hoping their team can make a deep run in this season’s Europa League.
