Bologna close in on Casale as Lazio eye Gigot

Start

Bologna are on the verge of securing Lazio defender Nicolo Casale in a move that could reshape both clubs’ backlines. The Italian international, who joined Lazio in 2022, appears to be heading towards a loan deal with Bologna, potentially including an option to buy that would become mandatory if the Rossoblu qualify for European competition.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports how despite being under contract with Lazio until 2027, Casale has fallen out of favour with coach Marco Baroni following a dip in form. This has opened the door for Bologna to bolster their defensive options under the guidance of coach Vincenzo Italiano.

As Casale’s departure looks increasingly likely, Lazio is not wasting time in identifying a replacement. The Biancocelesti have set their sights on Marseille’s Samuel Gigot to fill the void in their defense. The 30-year-old French center-back made 21 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, contributing three goals from his defensive position.
