Milan eyeing Adrien Rabiot as midfield reinforcement

Start

AC Milan are exploring various midfield options as they prepare for the potential departure of Ismael Bennacer, who has attracted interest from Saudi clubs. While Manu Koné remains a target, the Rossoneri are also considering a move for Adrien Rabiot, who became a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired on June 30th.

Calciomercato report that the interest in Rabiot is more than just an idea for Milan. The French midfielder’s technical qualities and physical attributes align well with Paulo Fonseca’s footballing philosophy. A high-profile free transfer could potentially reignite enthusiasm among the fanbase.

However, there are obstacles to overcome. Rabiot’s salary demands present a significant challenge. At Juventus, he earned €7.5 million net per season and is seeking an even higher wage in his next contract. Milan, while unable to match those figures, could offer an ambitious technical project and a leadership role that might not be available elsewhere.

The potential sale of Bennacer could be the key to unlocking the Rabiot deal. Bennacer’s departure would free up €4 million in wages, plus the transfer fee received. Milan is willing to negotiate Bennacer’s €50 million release clause with interested parties.

Meanwhile, the pursuit of Manu Koné continues. Milan has already reached a preliminary agreement with the player, but Borussia Mönchengladbach’s €20 million asking price is considered high.
