Inter’s Lautaro Martinez doubtful for Atalanta clash

Start

Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez remains a major doubt for the upcoming Serie A match against Atalanta on Friday. The Argentine striker is still struggling with a muscle issue that forced him to miss Inter’s recent 2-0 victory over Lecce.

Martinez initially experienced muscle fatigue in his thigh last Thursday, likely due to overexertion in the season opener against Genoa where he played 86 minutes. Manager Simone Inzaghi opted to leave him out of the squad entirely for the Lecce match as a precautionary measure.

According to reports from Calciomercato, Martinez continues to train separately from the main group as he works to recover. While there is still a possibility he could be included in the squad for Friday’s match, the chances of him starting appear minimal. The club is understandably reluctant to risk aggravating the injury of their star forward in what will be Inter’s first major test of the season.

In Martinez’s likely absence, Inzaghi will likely turn to the newly-formed partnership of Marcus Thuram and Mehdi Taremi. The duo showed promising signs of chemistry in the Lecce match, with Inzaghi praising their ability to work well together.

This early-season injury setback for Martinez comes at an inopportune time, as Inter faces a crucial match against Atalanta. However, the depth provided by summer signing Taremi gives Inzaghi more options to navigate this challenge compared to last season.
