Alessandro Nesta faced his first home defeat as Monza’s manager in Serie A, as Andrea Pinamonti’s goal secured a 1-0 victory for Genoa. In the post-match press conference, Nesta shared his thoughts on the game and the current state of his team.
The former Italian defender believed that a draw would have been a fairer result, stating, “I think a draw would have been the fairest outcome. We had some opportunities to equalize, but we need to improve in the final third.” He acknowledged the difficulty his team faced in the second half when Genoa adopted a defensive stance.
Addressing the ongoing transfer market, Nesta expressed his frustration, saying, “I don’t know who will arrive. Zerbin? I know nothing. This transfer market has been annoying me; I can’t wait for it to end.”
Nesta saw improvements from their previous match against Empoli but emphasized the need for better decision-making in the final third. He also highlighted the importance of key players regaining full fitness, mentioning Djuric, Petagna, and Gagliardini.
Regarding Genoa’s goal, Nesta pointed out a defensive lapse, explaining, “We should have sensed the danger. Pessina was under pressure, and we should have managed the situation better.”
The Monza manager praised his goalkeeper Pizzignacco, describing him as alert and full of potential, predicting that he will become a great goalkeeper with time.
On facing his former Milan and national team teammate Alberto Gilardino, now Genoa’s manager, Nesta joked, “Seeing Gilardino again? It was terrible because I lost. But jokes aside, he’s great, and I congratulate him.”
